Magic Research Patch Notes — April 6, 2023

A new version of Magic Research, v1.9.1, is now available on Steam!
This is a medium-sized release. It adds two new features, both locked behind two new early-game Storylines, as well as several bugfixes and some quality of life improvements.
This is a small-to-medium-sized release. Most of the changes in this release are various bug fixes, accessibility / screen reader improvements, and balance changes, particularly to the late game.

New features and changes:
- 2 new Storylines
- Adds Bestiary feature (to be unlocked via Storyline)
- Adds smarter apprentices feature (to be unlocked via Storyline)
- 1 new late-game Upgrade
- Enemy temporary effects now show up as buffs first, and then debuffs
- Add alternating colors to rows in Apprentices, Research, and ||Creatures|| screens
- Rename "Target FPS" to "Target UUPS (UI Updates Per Second)"
- Add ability to clear / remove Apprentice loadouts
- Raise Apprentice loadout slots to 8
- Steam only: Add UI scaling feature to Options
- Accessibility: Add three more headings in Exploration for ease of navigation
Bug fixes:
- Fix sort order of items when no filter is applied to Crafting screen
- Fix display of Memory Chamber in retirement screen on the run it is unlocked
- Fix "(Untracked)" stats displaying when they shouldn't
- If an edge case is found where it is trying to save data that has less total time played than the currently saved data, except for the case of specifically importing save data, crash the application so it doesn't mislead the player into thinking the game is saving the data
- Fix completing Storyline ||"The Giant Generator (Cog)" not correctly refreshing storage limits||
- Fix negative resource incomes not getting correctly formatted
- Fix spell ||Divine Magical Knowledge potentially giving experience on schools that have not been unlocked||
- Try to fix some crashes related to the gesture handling library
- Try to fix some caching issues with Conjure Building
- Exploration tab no longer closes when navigating in and out of the screen
- Fix Storyline ||"Miniature Replica" requirements not being the same as mentioned in the description||
- (Demo only) Adding items "Reinforced Iron Mail" and "Full Plate" which were intended to be in the Demo but were not
- (Steam only) Attempt at warning when hypothetical automatic save data import from Demo version doesn't work
- (Steam only) Fix bug where game processing is throttled when window is minimized, causing Time Pieces to be inconsistently granted instead of the game playing
- (Steam only) Attempt at working around "Module not found" error when loading the game
- (Steam / Web only) Accessibility: Fix checkbox state not readable by screen readers
Balance changes:
- Change duration of late-game spells ||Titan and Mass Blur (5 sec -> 3 sec)||
- Rebalance late-game building ||Mana Cascades: 30 Mana / sec -> 25 Mana / sec||
- Late-game status effect ||"Selective Silence" no longer silences spell "Dispel Self" in all cases||
- Late-game enemy ||"Trickster" now casts "Selective Silence (Protection)" if player does not have this debuff||
