Magic Research Patch Notes — April 13, 2023

A new version of Magic Research, v1.10.3, is now available on Steam!
This new version contains little in terms of new content, but it contains two important UI changes:
- v1.10.3 introduces tooltips to most spells, actions and items, so you can preview what they do or how much they cost by just hovering the mouse over their button.

- This version also introduces a multi-column layout on wide screens. If the window is wide enough, heart icons will appear next to each menu section. Using these you can pin sections, letting you open multiple simultaneously.

There are also many balance changes to the late game, and plenty of bugfixes and other UI improvements, such as (hopefully) a fix for the icons not appearing, the possibility to run the game full screen (via Alt + Enter or F11), and many more.

New features and changes:
- Add support for opening multiple screens at once in wide (1900px or higher width) screen layouts
- Speed up auto-press for +/- buttons, as well as Craft button
- Disable "Fight Boss" button while fighting boss
- Allow inventory / crafting item grid to be larger on tall screens
- Add extra hint to gather Wood at the beginning of the game, before building an Apprentice Dorm
- Remove "(1/1)", "(2/2)", etc. display from events when in the most recent page of an event (i.e. not looking at event history)
- Several performance improvements when multiple attacks happen in very quick succession (more than 10 per second)
- Some performance improvements to the Options screen, as well as other minor performance improvements in a few places throughout the game
- Change display of Time Piece consumption on speedup
- Small display only: Add bottom resource viewer to Exploration screen
- Steam / Web only: Add tooltips for collapsed actions, spells and items
- Steam only: Add fullscreen support via hotkey (either F11 or Alt + Enter)
Bug fixes:
- Steam / Web only: Fix icons sometimes not appearing
- Fix combat buffs not clearing correctly when starting a new combat from an event
- Fix auto-press not working on +/- buttons in buildings
- Fix estimated Mana consumption when Smarter Apprentices are off
- Fix Storyline "Apprentice Training" not triggering when player has 15+ apprentices until a dorm is built
- Fix UI bug in Inventory where items would sometimes get immediately unselected after selecting them
- Fix rounding edge case on cost display
- Fix spell "Magic Artillery" not affecting Nature Evocation spells
- Fix Bandit Lord not being considered a boss on the Bestiary
- Fix smarter apprentices not working for "Heal Summon"
- Fix attack delays of less than the target UUPS not being computed correctly
- Fix building costs flickering quickly under certain circumstances
- Fix spell Foresight auto-casting triggering popups
- Accessibility (Steam / Web only): Fix heading levels not passing through to screen readers
- Accessibility (Steam only): Attempt to fix alt-tab breaking attack announcements and Shift + Control + Z
Balance changes:
- Rebalance the number of required explorations on Living Forest Depths to unlock Canals (25 -> 15) and the Gold Nugget (25 -> 20)
- Rebalance bows: Long Bow (Accuracy -30% -> -25%), Bone Bow (Attack 440 -> 450, Accuracy -40% -> -30%)
- Rebalance some late-game weapons:
- Divine Blade (Attack +900 -> +999)
- Sword of Death (Attack +400 -> +500)
- Rebalance some gameplay elements to not require Time Pieces:
- Time Capsules no longer require Time Pieces to be built, and their cost scales much slower
- Storyline "Time Capsules" no longer requires Time Pieces to trigger, but it requires primary school to be Lv32 instead of Lv30
- Rebalance reward of Storyline "The Mimic" (+5 Coins / sec -> +100 Coins / sec)
- Continue to rebalance late-game:
- Adjust formula of item "Potion of Extreme Resilience": was 1 / X (where X was 1.67 and was scaled with Mastery) and now is instead 1 / (1 + X) (where X is 0.67 and is scaled with Mastery) as the new X represents the actual bonus better (and is consistent with Speed Potions). At max level and with all Storylines, this results on a decrease of this potion's effectivity from -70.6% to -57.6%
- Late-game item "Ultimate Alchemy" no longer decreases Attack Delay; however, base Max HP, Attack and Defense have been increased (+50% -> +75%)
- Rebalanced 2nd fight against Master of Alchemy to reflect this new effect (Base Attack Delay 2.3s -> 1.9s, Ultimate Alchemy no longer lowers Attack Delay, HP thresholds for potion usage are higher)
- Late-game spell "Titan" now decreases Attack Delay at a lower rate (0.5x -> 0.8x) but base duration has been increased (3 sec -> 4 sec)
- Rebalanced 2nd fight against Master of Enchantment to reflect this new effect (Base Attack Delay 1.8s -> 1.7s, Titan lowers Attack Delay by 20% rather than 50%)
- Rebalance stunlocks:
- Stun Protection status effect (both enemies and player) is now granted upon stun, rather than on stun cleared
- Stun Protection status effect duration is increased by stun's original duration
- Rebalanced item Belt of Stunning (70% reduction on Stun Protection time -> 90% reduction)
