Item Balance
We changed almost every item for the better! Making sure each item has an opportunity to shine. Our goal was to simplify the stats so that players can make meaningful choices, while bringing some of the less-picked items inline with the more popular items. Performance Overhaul
- Particle Party Poopers - reduced the number of particles used in a few places, sometimes down by an order of 10! Also, all particle systems will turn on closer to the player. These changes have reduced frame lags when bawking, dashing, and when certain obstacles are prevalent in levels.
- Memory Mischief - Bawk balls and lava trails are now allocated ahead of time to prevent frame drops when bawking and lag on lava levels. Not only that, but all obstacles have had their behavior updated to prevent unnecessary lookups and memory allocations during gameplay. Making for a much smoother run.
- Complete Collision Calibration - Reworked all of the collisions in the game this was a massive task, but very worth it! Sorted objects into layers to make sure collisions were only processed between objects when they should be. Reduced the number of raycasts used for ground detection and improved other raycasts to work as intended. Larger dash through colliders have been added too, making it more likely for you to gain back your dash charges.
- More efficient management of obstacles that react based on distance to clucky. These checks now happen far less frequently.
- Reduced the resolution of cloud dithering to gain back a tonne of frames on lava levels, especially noticeable on Macs.
- Removed unnecessary loading and saving during level load screens to improve load times.
- Now uses GPU Instancing for even more materials!

Based on feedback we have changed the default jump action key to spacebar from w/up. There is an option in the menu to switch it back if desired.
The Nitty Gritty
Item Adjustments
- Battle Helm - Removed heavy. Reduced armour from +2 to +1.
- Hard Hat - Removed armour.
- Bucket Hat - Gives +50% debuff recovery. Gives +60% debuff slow resist. Reduced armour from +2 to +1. Short sighted adjusted to be less distracting.
- Chestplate - Removed increased fall speed. Now the description shows more stats instead of keywords.
- Rock Feet - Removed safe landing. Removed fall speed. Gives +1 Armour.
- Steel Toes - Increased Armour from +1 to +2. Gives +50% fall speed.
- Super Hair - Removed bawk shield as it felt underwhelming. Increased bawk distance from +20% to +100%. Increased bawk size from +20% to +50%.
- FPS Glasses - The camera no longer tilts when turning. Reduced bawk recovery from +180% to +150%. Increased bawk recharge from +120% to +150%.
- Tool Belt - Removed bawk recovery, recharge, size and distance. Increased bawk charges from +1 to +2.
- Cowboy Boots - Removed bawk recovery. Increased bawk charges from +1 to +2.
- Ram Horns - Removed dash recovery.
- Cat Headphones - Reduced dash recovery from -140% to -200%. Gives -50% dash length. The heart bawk ball is now the same size as the original bawk ball and its visuals have been adjusted.
- Oxygen Tank - Removed dash recovery and recharge. Gives +125% dash distance.
- Roller Skates - Removed dash recovery. Gives +25% dash distance.
- Space Helmet - Increased dodge time from +50% to +75%.
- Glasses - Increased dodge recovery and slow from +20% to +30%.
- Hero Cape - Increased dodge recovery from +40% to +50%.
- Slippers - Increased dodge slow from +30% to +50%.
- Glider - Increased glide time from +40% to +50%.
- Monarch Wings - Removed star jump. Gives +20% Jump Power.
- Jetpack - Removed star jump and star boost.
- Pirate Hat - Gives 1 extra value to shiny eggs.
- Parrot - Gives +33% egg combo shield.
- Party Hat - Gives 50% Star Power. (star power gives star jump and star boost)
- Handbag - Gives 60% Star Power. (star power gives star jump and star boost)
- High Heels - Gives 50% Star Power. (star power gives star jump and star boost)
- Pizza Hat - Gives 50% Boost Power. (boost power gives boost jump and boost boost)
- Back Pack - Gives 50% Boost Power. (boost power gives boost jump and boost boost)
- Guitar - Reduced Boost Shield from 200% to 100%. Gives 30% Boost Power. (Keep in mind boost shield now scales with boost time and this applies after that) (boost power gives boost jump and boost boost)
- Hiking boots - Gives 50% Boost Power. (boost power gives boost jump and boost boost)
- Top Hat - Gives 40% Turn Speed. (Turn speed now increases turn acceleration and turn speed limit)
- Farmer Boots - Gives 40% Turn Speed. (Turn speed now increases turn acceleration and turn speed limit)
Quality of Life
- Selected buttons in the menus now shine for better visual clarity.
- You can now click anywhere on the item in the equipment menu to change items.
- Cannon now prioritizes going to Rascal over going to the highest star.
- Boost shield now scales with boost time.
- Players now have better turning control during dashes and boosts.
- Players should now find it easier to break dashable objects and collect eggs while dashing.
- Time slows now scale with game speed so it's still worth it when playing on max chili. Time slows should now feel more consistent and you should get stuck less on surrounding objects.
- Reduced player base max fall speed to 10 m/s so you don’t fall faster than you can keep up.
- Added 2 extra tips to the loading scene.
- Player’s jump height cap has been increased. Minimum camera height has been slightly increased to accommodate.
- Adjusted the seed for Bouncing Barrels and Speedy Sheep to reduce early difficulty.
- Path supports are now dangerous. Path eggs are higher off ground (for when jumping over broken paths). Path geysers and fish no longer spawn eggs. Path pillars no longer get bawked away forever. Path breaks happen more frequently but now must be a certain minimum size.
- Water death is now lower and you can survive but get wet if you only dip your toes.
- Sprinkler wall indicators are now more intuitive. Now players can look for the most green or least red.
- Stationary Wagon Wheels now have longer blocks, spawn less and have more consistent difficulty scaling.
- Rolling wagon wheel eggs are now in better locations.
- Exploding dizzy barrels now have longer blocks, spawn less, increased range but only pop if you are on the ground. You can no longer die from colliding with the barrels.
- Frog eggs are now in better locations.
- Reeds are now easier to identify if in water or on land. Land reeds now are darker, have longer blocks and have land after them. Water reeds now spread out less and have water after them. Water and Land reed patches now have safety blocks after them.
- Boats are now positioned slightly lower and you can land on the front of them. Boats now have longer blocks.
- Increased the amount of floating logs in the water and now 20% of them never dip.
- Tree logs now fall earlier so you have more time to react. Tree logs eggs are now in better locations
- Removed water sprinkler walls from Stoney Swamps.
- Paths gems are now purple.
- Pillars are now completely dashable and bawkable.
- Meteors and Rolling Fireballs now come in a range of colours.
- Lava plumes maximum block length has been reduced so you don’t need multiple back to back dash jumps.
- Hex walls no longer have different sizes and are slightly easier to jump over. Hex wall eggs are now in better locations
- Flamethrowers can now trigger earlier and later.
- Lava steps min heights adjusted to be higher now can have trampolines.
- Levels with lava into water blocks or vice versa now have a small dirt in between them.
- Less water sprinklers in water trials.
- Trials can now have hex walls.
Bug Fixes
- Reduced unfair log block placement in trials.
- Reduced the amount of unintended grass in water levels.
- Striking snakes now has safety blocks in between blocks.
- Removed the extra "l" in Leaping Lilies.
- Global highscores should be more accurate and you should no longer see duplicates of your own score.
- Fixed an error that occurred on load for the notification controller.
- Spamming the Esc button during load screen no longer quits the game.
- Removed a bug which caused the player to not start with the correct amount of time slow.
- Time slow now works in tutorial no matter the chili level.
- Removed a bug where the camera zoomed in when lily pad jumping.
- Players should find it harder to fall through lily pads into death.
- Fixed a bug which stopped players from getting achievements like Shiny and Hot Stuff.
- Cloud lightning can now happen on the first play from the load screen.
- Players should now land safely more often.
- The camera should no longer zoom in for pipes when they have been bawked away.
- Bawking the snail trail no longer bawks the snail away.
- Fixed some unintended death interactions on Water and Lava steps.
- Fixed a bug where you could dash while dashing, extending your dash.
- Fixed some spelling mistakes on item descriptions and made key words more consistent.
- Fixed some star and rascal issues on Leaping Lilies which caused them not to spawn correctly.
- Fixed a bug where you could pause during loading.
- Fixed a bug where the pause screen flashed on and off at the start of the game.
- Fixed a bug where sprinkler walls were on when they were meant to be off.
- Fixed a bug which caused the pause end screen to have an overlay be open upon transition. Can no longer press buttons during the transition.
- Fixed a bug which allowed users to restart mid cannon to get free eggs and distance.
- Fixed a bug which caused short sighted to not be visible after restart.
- Fixed a bug which caused eggs to spawn within hay walls.
Notes
- Animal collisions have now been simplified for now and we may reintroduce specific interactions at a later date.
- We may look to add an option that changes the distance constant particles turn on at a later date.
- We may look to add an option that changes cloud dither maps at a later date.
