PS3 Eye Camera Open Source Driver (32 / 64 bit)
ViewTracker Patch Notes — December 23, 2018
Aggregated from Steam, cross-tracked with Battle.net coverage on GamePatchNote.
I have been working on a driver for the PlayStation Eye Camera and the first beta release is now available on github! Happily there were lots of open source projects out there that were of great help, including the PS3 Eye Linux driver.
For those who are unfamiliar with this camera, it's an extremely good value (only $7 on Amazon right now) and it has a decent sensor which is capable of 60 FPS at a low latency. It's perfect for head tracking, but the only problem is it's designed to be used with a PlayStation 3. There is another 3rd party driver available for PC but it's only for 32 bit apps and doesn't work with ViewTracker.
The new driver has only had limited testing and could still have some bugs. The good news is that it runs in user-mode so any bugs will only affect the app that's using the camera and it won't crash your entire computer like a kernel-mode driver could. It should be compatible with any DirectShow application. If you run into any issues please feel free to post feedback here or on github.
Hope everyone is having fantastic holiday season!
