Fix for weird controller orientations
The Red Stare Patch Notes — April 3, 2026
Aggregated from Steam, cross-tracked with Battle.net coverage on GamePatchNote.
To all agents,
Short story:
Please follow this video guide on how to adjust the default motion controller orientations in case they do not feel correct:
Long story:
Back when The Red Stare was in development (2016 - 2017), VR game development was in its early days. It was a modern-day Wild West, on both a creative and technical level, where standardisation, rules, and conventions were non-existent nor agreed upon.
Much like the old West: as different towns and cities became more developed and recognised, people from different towns started interacting with eachother; sharing ideas, trading goods, and perhaps even move and integrate in their new environment.
Sometimes, however, in the process of change, some things break or adapt not as smoothly.
This is what happened with VR motion controllers and different runtime environments, such as OpenXR, OVR, and Steam VR.
Thoughout the last 10 years where runtime environment have changed, SDK have been upgraded, and hardware has evolved, an unintentional problem was introduced leading to controller orientation offsets and discrepancies.... This became a problem for pre-existing games that do not have in-game settings to adjust controller offsets (recent VR games do, but The Red Stare doesn't) Fortunately, there is a way to fix this on a per-title basis.
Please follow the video guide posted above if you are experiencing such situations where controller orientations do not feel correct.
