Aggregated from Steam, cross-tracked with Battle.net coverage on GamePatchNote.
10 Year Anniversary
Hello, friends!
Today marks 10 years since Recursion Deluxe was first released on Steam! This will be the first update of many aimed at cleaning up and maintaining the game via more frequent patches. More information in the Development Roadmap section below, but first: the patch notes.

Patch Notes
Updated Unity Game Engine to the latest version
This fixed a vulnerability introduced by the version of Unity we used in the previous update
Completely rewrote the mod loading system
Default assets are now embedded in the game, allowing the game to run where file system access is more restricted and preventing missing asset files from crashing the game.
Implemented in-game level editor preview
Bee Creative achievement can now be obtained!
This preview version of the editor is still missing a lot of features which we hope to address over time.
Replaced old input system
Using Unity's new Input System, we're able to support more gamepads and devices than ever before
Added 5 new hidden statue rooms, each with their own challenge level
Warning: These levels are very difficult!
Improved visual fidelity with particle effects and animations for various objects
Replaced "More Levels" screen with save slots linked to the in-game editor preview
As always, if you find any issues in this update, do not hesitate to reach out and let us know. We'll try to get it fixed as soon as possible!
Level Editor (Alpha)
We've been working on an in-game editor to allow players to create and play custom levels. While it's not yet up to speed with a lot of the features we use in the official stages, it is functional enough to mess around with and, most importantly, earn that elusive 'Bee Creative' achievement.

As part of our ongoing efforts to support the game, we plan to improve on this editor over time and add Workshop support for sharing mods and levels. If anyone is curious about the actual editor and workflow we use to make levels, let us know - maybe we can write up a tutorial.
Development Roadmap
As we were going through all the features we wanted to add - some of which we touched on in the previous update - we realized that a lot of them would drastically change the identity of the game and how it works.
To pull off some of the things we have planned, a lot of the core systems would need a complete rewrite, and for a precision platformer like Recursion Deluxe, that could affect the way the character handles, and thus invalidate a lot of the level design we've already done.
As gamers ourselves, we know how disappointing it can be to return to a beloved game and find it changed beyond recognition. At the same time, we're also aware that some of the ideas we proposed and promises we made may have been things you've been looking forward to.
Ultimately we decided that the best course of action moving forward is this:
Add new content to Recursion Deluxe using systems and mechanics we currently have
Begin development on a brand new game from the ground up incorporating the new ideas
What this means is Recursion Deluxe will still get the following updates:
New levels, including World 5 and multiple challenge levels
New achievements centered around the new levels
In-game editor workflow improvements for casual level designers
Third-party editor support for more advanced creators and modders
User-generated content sharing via Steam Workshop
Steam Deck support
While we don't have much information to share about the new game yet, we do plan to roll out the updates to Recursion Deluxe over time at a much quicker cadence than we have been, so stay tuned!

Thank You!
Thank you all for your patience and understanding. While this update was mostly centered on updating the core framework of the game, we're already hard at work on the next update which will be focused more on getting new content in your hands.
As always, feel free to reach out to us on X or Bluesky with any questions or concerns. We look forward to hearing from you!
