Desktop+ Patch Notes — June 3, 2026
Aggregated from Steam, cross-tracked with Battle.net coverage on GamePatchNote.
What's new in Desktop+ 3.5?
Desktop+ 3.5 mainly comes with a series of fixes to keep up with ongoing changes from SteamVR updates, but there are also some other minor improvements and very appreciated community contributions.
Theater Screen Fixes
Theater Screen origin overlays broke at the beginning of this year with the release of SteamVR 2.15.1. As it stands I still don't know if I was supposed to something specific to fix it on Desktop+' end or it's a regression in SteamVR.
In the meantime I figured out an alternative way to make it work. This fix is on a brittle foundation and may break with future SteamVR updates.
Entering Theater Mode can fail under some conditions. If the Theater Mode isn't restored automatically on startup or profile load, entering it/showing the overlay manually should work.
Other related fixes include Theater Screen origin overlays not applying capture source changes properly and Theater Screen origin overlays not always toggling Over-Under 3D properly.
They also no longer close when opacity is set to 0%.
Legacy Dashboard Fixes
Dashboard origin overlays can be freely positioned again while the SteamVR legacy dashboard is active.
Internal changes to SteamVR make it infeasible to fully restore the functionality, but it works again within the Desktop+ dashboard tab.
Dashboard origin overlays can still be set to display outside of it, but their position will not update.
There is now a warning displayed when the SteamVR legacy dashboard is active. Support for it is generally limited, making it not recommended.
Issues there are still tackled on a best-effort basis, however.
The position of the Overlay Bar for the SteamVR legacy dashboard was adjusted to account for drag-handle hover detection not being reliable there.
Other Changes
New:
- Added default bindings for Steam Link Hand Tracking
These bindings are very limited, but mirror the default VR Dashboard ones in this regard.
Main motivation for these is to get proper tip offsets by not falling back to simulating another controller, but this is untested at this time. - Desktop+ Laser Pointer beams no longer appear flat at an angle (contributed by LinesGuy)
Changed:
- Improved Overlay Bar drag-handle hover detection
Fixed:
- Fixed dashboard-relative positioning in SteamVR 2.16 or newer
- Fixed overlays using controllers or trackers as origin not appearing when the device connected after launch
- Fixed Over-Under 3D overlays not updating on cropping changes if there's no display activity
- Reduced flickering when switching Graphics Capture sources
- Fixed Desktop+ Laser Pointer visuals not applying custom SteamVR controller offsets
- Various other minor UI fixes and adjustments
While the SteamVR stable build pushed this to be released, it also was kind of time to put something new on the Desktop+ stable branch anyhow. So here it is.
