Future Content News
Hello everyone!
No update yet, this is a news announcement.
We have decided to postpone the swamp update.
We were planning to release it in two parts ( part today, part two weeks later) but we have recently come to the conclusion that it would be better to publish one bigger update two weeks from now than two smaller less impactful ones.
With that out of the way, I'd like to take this opportunity to update you a bit on our plans for the rest of the year (and the beginnings of the next one)!
Swamp Update:
What we'll be releasing 2 weeks from now.
This update will be increasing the map size considerably (20 new areas) and introducing a new biome (the swamp). The swamp has dam-building beavers, leeches, eels, ducks and some new resources such as bog myrtle, peat, alder and most importantly bog iron. It also has 4 new landmarks with some special mechanics as well as paths that flood depending on the water level.
Iron is a complex metal that has to be processed in specific ways and cannot be cast or alloyed (at the current technology level). Iron tools will have the potential to be a lot stronger than tin bronze at high metal quality, and will open the way to better woodworking and eventually mechanical devices (like mills) in future updates.
NPC Update:
We're planning for this to be the update after the swamp one. It will introduce the NPC creator as well as the possibility to encounter NPCs in-game.
The NPC creator is similar to the character one and should allow players to design the personalities, looks and traits of their NPCs.
This first version of human NPCs will be able to do a good amount of tasks for you, and will already come with a working relationship system for friendship and romance. After this we will continue to update NPCs with more tasks and polishing their systems.
This is a big update but we also think it's something card survival really needs and we want to have it in as soon as possible.
These two updates are the ones coming next, and after we're dividing the coming content into a few different blocks that we are planning to release over the rest of the year (and the first half of 2027) in no particular order/priority:
Construction:
New buildings such as stilt houses and stone structures, swamp paths, cliff stairs, as well as the capacity to finally destroy buildings.
Advanced infrastructure to control water flow, cave improvements and automated structures such as mills (wind, water or human/animal powered).
Rafts and boats for transportation.
Magic:
We will be introducing a ritual to create familiars, the ability to create wards and home spirits, curses, foresight and other new magical blueprints and rituals. We will also use this opportunity to deepen and improve some of the psychological/spiritual system and add a good number of new spirits and landmarks. Among the spirits we have planned there are ghosts, spirit traders, location haunts, guardian spirits and unique animals. Many of these will offer special mechanics that will only come into play during the second or third year.
Life:
We have many planned features to enrich player life in the forest. Here we intend to release honey, beekeeping, sweets and more advanced bakery as well as more advanced methods for alcohol distillation, brews and alchemy. We're also planning to release NPC improvements around this time to enable family making and allow them to participate in combat as allies.
Animals:
We're planning to introduce donkeys, mules and oxes as mounts/pack animals and farm help. We're also going to be adding dogs and cats as pets and animal pests such as crows and mice. Sheep are also coming here, which will be used for their wool, milk and meat.
Mountain:
Another map expansion with many new location including permanently snowed places, areas that can only be accessed by climbing, great places for skiing and many caves.
In addition to this, we'll be releasing improvements to the temperature and weather system. We are also planning to release improvements to the mining system here as well as new metals such as silver, gold, lead and new sources for iron.
New Characters (Fates):
The next characters we're planning to release are the Witch, which starts with a hut in the swamp and whose adventure has her dealing with spirits, and the Tourist, which will start on top of the new mountain area with very little resources and will have to start a new life in this new place and time.
That's all for now.
Let us know if you'd like to see any of this content in particular, and it might help us adjust our priorities. ;)
See you all for the swamp/iron update!
