An Actual Easy Mode?
For those of you that have played my other game, Dead, will know that Easy Mode is big fat lie, but should there be an actual easy mode for Dead and Mini-Dead? The topic of whether or not Dark Souls should have an easy mode is very divisive. My answer is yes, so let's go over what the options are and why.
Optional settings for those who require them. Completing Mini-Dead with these settings is a valid playthrough.
REGENERATE HP MODE
Every three seconds you heal a hit point. In Mini-Dead you get four hits and you're out. There is no way to get health points back but with this mode you can heal over time. Self explanatory and yet I explained it anyway because I'm a silly little guy.
SLOW MODE
The game will run at half speed. During play testing, I often observed players running the game at half speed anyway due to a bug (or their bad PCs.) When I'd tell them the game is actually meant to run twice as fast they seemed surprised. "You're telling me THIS is slow?"
Yeah I am. Anyway, for those that don't have the reaction speed of a teenager you can play the game at a pace that doesn't compromise on the damage you deal. In other words, everything is slow but not you or your damage.
DISABLE ACHIEVEMENTS
The game will not grant achievements while this is active. For those that just want to practice the game using the other modes but don't want to unlock achievements, then this option allows you to do this. However, there are gamers who will need these options and I think they deserve to unlock achievements and display their progress.
For most players, you won't need or use these options. It saddens me to think some games won't be experienced because players assume it's too hard for them. Some players are disabled or have particular afflictions that make games inaccessible and I think they should have as much access as possible to games. I wish my Dad could experience Dark Souls and I don't think an easy mode would remove the experience from other players.
These options will be released as part of the base game on the 20th!
