Rolling Line Patch Notes — May 7, 2026
Aggregated from Steam, cross-tracked with Battle.net coverage on GamePatchNote.

It's about time for another community map making event! This time It's themed around the brand new terrain system update.
While the name is the "Mountains and rivers" jam, this can include all kinds of terrain, like deserts, valleys, oceans, beaches, canyons, etc. The only theme requirement is that you make use of the new dynamic in-game terrain sculpting tools.
To submit you map, simply tick the "Mountains & rivers entry" toggle when uploading to the Steam Workshop:

Here is a more detailed list of the rules and requirements:
You map must use the in-game dynamic terrain sculpting system. You can use other terrain options (like flat tables and 3D model modded terrain) as well, but this must be in addition to the in-game sculpting system. The main focus must be on the in-game terrain system.
You can submit as many entries as you like.
You can submit a map you've already worked on in the past (e.g. adding new scenery to an old map project, or continuing work on a map that uses the new terrain system that you were already making before this event started).
Mods of all kinds are perfectly fine to use.
You can work with multiple people.
This event ends on June 7th.
You can view map submissions in the "Competitions -> Mountains And Rivers" tag on the Steam Workshop:

I also previously posted a developer commentary video about the new terrain system on my Patreon. As with all my devlog videos, I upload them to YouTube as well after a few weeks, so you can watch this video now YouTube here:
Other fixes & features
As well as announcing this map jam event, this update also includes a few fixes & features:
Custom fog color effect for tunnel regions
You can now change the color used for tunnel regions. By default they will use the sun color, but you can instead use a custom color to create effects like pitch darkness (black) or underwater (blue) as well as lots of other creative ideas:

Terrain color picker improvements
The terrain painting tool color select has been improved to include a few new features, like it can now select colors directly from a poster. This is amazingly useful when using a reference image for your map:

Remember you can also press Enter when pointing at any editable object to spawn a copy of its color in your hand. You can use this feature to copy the color of a prop, copy a color from a poster (where you are pointing) or copy the color used on a segment of terrain:

Various fixes to the terrain system
Using the arrows to extend terrain in a direction now has improved smoothing. E.g. extending an underwater segment will correctly maintain the water level:

Edges of the table now also correctly display when you use the vertex move tool to shift a vertex around. The walls of the table will now correctly connect to the new position of the vertex:

Additional minor fixes:
The terrain color select tool now allows you to still use the Q and E buttons while it is set to "select color" which makes it easier to navigate item drawers while choosing colors.
Fixed material issue on level crossings (they would appear unlit when the lights were turned off).
And that's everything for this update!
I hope you all have fun for this map making event. Remember I always personally play every single one of the entries for these map events, so no entries ever get ignored.
Whether you're an experienced map maker, or brand new to the game, I highly recommend giving this event a go and making an entry!
