MORTEM Patch Notes — November 18, 2024
Aggregated from Steam, cross-tracked with Battle.net coverage on GamePatchNote.
Hello everyone!
Before I go into the reasoning why I chose to take down the VR version of Mortem, I want to address the future of this game.
I have been working on a remastered update for Mortem for the past couple of months, I originally made this game at a very young age.
I was fifteen, and as a solo developer, with a limited experience, I didn't release the best product I could have done.
Since then life took over, went trough different hardships, but now with my passion for game development. I have officially been working on a big remastered update for this game.
I will announce in the next coming months all the different features and changes, but I will list some for all of you later on in this announcement.
Now to the point...
The reasoning for taking down the VR version of Mortem, was simply it wasn't very well optimized, the experience people had on it wasn't great, as you could say the same about the original game.
For the people that bought, and own Mortem VR version, still have access to it. But nobody can buy it from now.
I will consider making a VR version after the remastered update has been shipped. I have been working on making sure that the remastered version will be a great experience and enjoyable. Making it scarier but also fun to play, as the original version can be very frustrating.

Before I leave I do want to leave you with some idea what to expect of the remastered update.
It has been rebuilt from the ground up, to make it less annoying, but also introducing new features to spice up the gameplay.
It has become more of a strategy game, and I've developed six unlockable difficulties, developed a heart rate, adrenaline and breathing system. That all affect the gameplay and strategy.
Depending on many factors, now there is a possibility when hiding, that Mortem can try to attack and open your closet, bringing an new quick time event. Holding your breath will be able to counter this.
Completely new custom made house, designed for this gameplay, and there is not only one closet this time. There will be many different strategies, but as you play, one at a time will lock. Forcing you to rethink the escape strategy.
I also have included a custom mode, when unlocked you can completely create your own Hide and Seek experience.
This new remastered version will also focus on user experience, introducing tutorials and a response to many negative feedback the original game got. I want to create this free update, for all of you who bought the game in the past and I want to create a fun experience.
I hope this is as exciting for you all, as it is for me.
I will keep you updated along the journey soon, as I am creeping out of the alpha stage now :)
Wish you all the best,
Best regards,
Drómi Hauksson
