NervBox Patch Notes — May 16, 2024
Aggregated from Steam, cross-tracked with Battle.net coverage on GamePatchNote.
Hey everyone,
Today we’re excited to share version 0.5 of NervBox with you all with some major new features and large improvements to the Sandbox Gun and networking stack.
Check out our awesome new trailer!
First off, we are deploying our third map: Labs. Labs is our new multi-purpose training map to help introduce mechanics to players. Run through the movement course, take aim in the shooting range, or play around in a new sandbox environment. Labs can be accessed through the lobby creation menu, with an optional tutorial game mode available to enable extra controls information.
Things are heating up in the Warehouse. Lava has leaked in and filled the room! Watch out, the floor is deadly! We are also currently working on a game mode that will take advantage of this lava, so stay tuned! Lava Warehouse can also be accessed through the lobby creation menu.
We’ve added Weld Ownership Propagation. By treating welded objects as a single object from a network level, we’ve greatly improved the stability and physical responsiveness of builds across the network. Weld Ownership Propagation dynamically sets up structures to allow you to gain control of an entire build, just by interacting with a single part of it. With this feature, we can now consider our core networking stack complete.
Finally, we’ve rolled out a couple extra functions to the Sandbox Gun’s telekinetic mode. You now have the ability to cycle through submodes by tapping the action button and have access to moving, rotating, scaling, and locking selected objects.
And of course, we’ve also gone in and done a round of bug fixing for various networking issues, inconsistencies, and quality-of-life changes. See the detailed change notes below for more information.

Here’s what’s changed and been added:
Networking:
- Added weld-ownership propagation, welded objects will now be treated as a single object in terms of ownership. For example, previously if jointed objects were welded and you attempted to push one, the other object(s) could be delayed if someone else owned it. We now treat welded objects as one ownership entity, creating a smoother, more seamless experience.
- Objects grabbed by other players are now more responsive and feel less stiff when interacted with.
- Fixed cases of objects drifting away when at idle.
- Fixed the black screen bug in which a player would join a lobby, and would hear lobby audio but would not see anything or be able to move. Players within the lobby would see a T-posing player.
- Minor object synchronization improvements.
Player:
- Improved player representation, players should stretch less often and be more stable overall. There’s still a few pops here and there that we’re working on.
- Improved player teleportation, it is now more precise and does not explode.
- Fixed an issue where while jumping repeatedly, the player would either get a random jump boost or get stuck on the ground temporarily.
- Adjusted IK to reduce the camera clipping with the world.
Maps:
- Added Labs, featuring a movement course, shooting range, and sandbox area. This also features some tutorial information to help new players learn how to play.
- Added lava variant of the warehouse.
Interaction:
- Small virtual controller consistency improvements and bug fixes.
- Improved gun-slide behavior when it is grabbed exclusively (hands no longer spin).
- Fixed hands not moving on gun slides for other players.
- Fixed force grabs not returning collision with objects if the force grab was canceled early.
Tools:
- Added new sub-modes to telekinesis mode, including lock, translation, and rotation. Press the action button while in telekinesis mode to switch between modes and use the trigger while holding the gizmo to activate them.
- Sandbox gun spawn mode now takes into account the player's rotation, as well as its held rotation, allowing for more accurate spawning.
- Sandbox gun hologram no longer appears when joining mid-session.
- Fixed velocity joints not working how they were intended to. Velocity joints now try to keep any two jointed objects at the same speed.
- Fixed sandbox gun laser endpoint not sticking properly when artificially turning.
- Sandbox gun spawn menu will now open upon selecting the option, and can be closed in the same way.
- Fixed inconsistencies with telekinesis mode freezing.
- Increased the grappling gun retract speed.
- Improved the grappling gun firing alignment.
- Fixed the grappling gun exploding while in use.
- Fixed the grappling gun vibrating while held.
- Increased the max distance the grappling hook can aim from to improve swing feel in New Park City.
- Fixed a bug where the jet gun forces would apply to other players causing their legs to shoot out.
- Fixed inconsistencies with how jet gun forces were applied.
- Fixed weld line visuals not working properly objects getting destroyed. General weld line consistency improvements.
Weapons:
- Adjusted MK18 impact forces to be more in line with the rest of the weapon selection.
Audio:
- Updated Steam Audio
- Improved consistency of bullet impact sounds.
- Adjusted footstep sound playback to better reflect animations.
- Adjusted footstep sounds spatialization.
- Fixed dry fire sound on guns only playing once.
