Mystica Patch Notes — January 19, 2023
Aggregated from Steam, cross-tracked with Battle.net coverage on GamePatchNote.
Mystica is a dark fantasy set in a world of politics, grimness, and magic heavily inspired by works such as Game of Thrones, Final Fantasy, and Attack on Titan.
I'm sure many will notice how the game is developed in RPG Maker- I'm a solo dev with no budget. Game dev is a hobby I absolutely want to do more with, but even if the game doesn't sell well, I'll still make more. I've worked on Mystica every day over 2 years (inspired by Bojack Horseman advice!) and am very proud of how it's shaped out, particularly the story and characters.
The game takes place in a world with an energy dubbed 'magic' in the air. Some are born with the ability to manipulate it (mages) and others are not. In events before the game, magic nearly destroyed the world, thus leading to heavy persecution of anyone who can use it now. This is where the story begins as a new emperor is crowned and begins imposing even harsher actions against people who were simply born a certain way.
Combat is quick and simple, taking place using row-based battles and skills that maintain usefulness. You can form combos and even early-acquired skills can be valuable throughout the game. There's tons of optional content totaling a 30-40 hour playtime.
I hope everyone who tries Mystica enjoys it! And if people are turned off by the RPG Maker aspect, I understand. As I gradually (nothing more effective than CONSISTENT daily steps!) grow the budget for each game, the art assets will absolutely become more unique in the future.
I post more regular updates on Reddit, as well as a little personal info on myself. I've grown a lot both mentally and in game dev skill over the last couple years (been researching the fact that I had pilocytic astrocytoma- a brain tumor in my cerebellum- at age 6). Very excited to continue releasing games that just get better and better!
