Jumping Jax Patch Notes — March 1, 2021
Aggregated from Steam, cross-tracked with Battle.net coverage on GamePatchNote.
This month we worked on a combination of new features and making the game more stable. A large focus this month was performance and stabilization. We added tons of debugging. Most importantly, the Ghost Replays have been reworked and are much more intuitive.
As per usual, we have some level updates that will clear the level leaderboards. We will likely continue to have leaderboard resets nearly every patch, at least for the levels that change.
Over the next couple months, our focus will be shifting from programming to level design, so expect MASSIVE updates to the levels. We will be play testing tons of new tutorials and making the entire game look so, so much prettier (just bare with us through the grey boxing stage :D )
New Features
- Our biggest focus this patch was the ghost system. It should now be stutter free. We also added new UI for when you're spectating. It both changes color, and shows who you're spectating. It has also been added to the "level completion" screen so you don't have to go back to the menu to spectate.
- We added a new tutorial system. Now, there's triggers in the world that will more dynamically give you advice. For example, if you die 5 times at the same spot, we will plan to add more detailed advice.
- Added more hotkeys to the level editor for selecting axis to edit, and switching between pos/rot/scale
- Added a hotkey (Q) to reset portals.
- Added current game version to the bottom right of the Main Menu
- Removed old platform textures, added additional contrast to surfaces that are jumpable.
- Added a shadow to the UI so it's easier to read on bright levels
- A second pass at Sound Effects! These will be temporary, but are closer to the final product
Bug Fixes
- When hitting "play" in the Level Editor, you will now auto spawn at a "First Checkpoint" if there is one. There is a bug right now where it only works on the second attempt, we are in the process of diagnosing why.
- Fix resolution settings. All resolutions supported by your monitor will now properly show up (I didn't mess up a copy/paste, hehe)
- All Level Editor buttons will be disabled while waiting on the level to publish. When the publish is done, the Steam Overlay will open to your new workshop item.
- Massive updates to the project's save structure. There may be issues you find that we haven't seen yet.
- Changed the window models; the game should run much better when looking at apartments from a distance. (We're looking at you, Hop 2)
- TONS of logging updates to help us diagnose your issues better :)
- We moved the level editor folder, we added a tool that should automatically move your levels over. If your levels go missing, come ask us about it in the discord!
