Valaka Expansion - Hope’s Retreat
The Federation is determined to continue the rebuild and retake the land of Valaka from the Arachnids at all costs. With the Central Garrison tentatively under Federation control, and Victory Bridge fully reconstructed, MI Command has set their sights on reclaiming the grounds beyond.

Hope’s Retreat was once the site of great promise. A little slice of Federation Home far from home. But when the Arachnid menace drove our brave colonists off planet the site had to be abandoned. But with renewed Valaka colonization efforts, the many construction sites and storage yards are primed for reclamation and recovery.
Valaka will include a new mission area for Troopers to explore and defend for the Federation. The new area will feature a new Valakan ARC build zone, new AAS missions, and a new Horde base.
Re-enlistment Rewards
The Mobile Infantry’s VA Office has received a new budget allocating new pension plans for our most distinguished Troopers! We are happy to report that we’ve forgone an increase to monetary compensation, and instead all Troopers will be entitled to a selection of exclusive decorations and ceremonial weapons!
Liberator Revolver
Unlocked at Re-enlistment 3, a new Sidearm will be added to the arsenal for our most Elite Vanguards. The TW-7 Liberator is a powerful revolver-style weapon. Combining a compact formfactor, with a devastating punch. This new weapon is not only the most powerful pistol available to members of the Deepspace Vanguard but one of the more deadly weapons in the entire MI Arsenal.
Added TW-7 Liberator Revolver at Re-enlist 3

Arachnid Tuning
Arachnid Bug Holes
Developments within Federation training programs have enabled a more varied selection of equipment to become a viable breach collapsing option. The quantities of lower yield explosives, such as the MX-90 Grenades, that were needed to close a hole have been significantly reduced. Troopers may also choose to use unconventional options like Napalm Grenades and Flamethrowers. Many options that would never have typically been reasonable for Bug Hole closure are now possible, and sanctioned by command!
Fire & Napalm damage increased from 0% → 500%
Demolition damage increased from 150% → 300%
Explosive damage increased from 100% → 200%
Additional details about specific weapon options are listed in the Armory Tuning below.
Ambushes
The bugs have developed new methods of attacking and disrupting our operations by preying on our most isolated and vulnerable Troopers. Federation scientists report that the Bugs will periodically choose a specific target to be the focus of their Ambushes, and send closely spaced waves of bugs to increase the lethality factor. After a short while a new target will be selected, and the cycle will continue. All Troopers are recommended to stick close to your teammates as the first line of defense! Stay vigilant Troopers!
Increased Ambush difficulty
Difficulty scales with the active Threat level, and the total number of active Troopers in the Mission Area
Spawns will typically prioritize isolated or distant targets. Increasing the danger of traveling alone
Spawn frequency follows a sawtooth pattern with moments of frantic action followed by a brief recovery period
Spawns are clustered tightly together for a short duration to add additional strain within a specific area
Ambushes are capable of spawning truly huge swarms of bugs very quickly if conditions are met
All AAS & ARC missions will feature Ambient Ambushes
Ambient Ambushes are always active (without a mutator) and additionally scale with Mission difficulty
All Ambush Mutators have been updated
This is the start of major steps we are taking to increase the baseline difficulty in a typical match. Ambushes fill much of the idle time between Objectives and are critical to maintaining a constant baseline threat, and ensures Troopers are getting pressured in a variety of ways throughout the match.
The main difference with these changes is that Bugs will commit far more bugs in one area, instead of a trickle of bugs equally spaced throughout the mission. A swarm of bugs will harass a local area for a duration before moving onto the next target. By focusing attacks in a smaller area it increases the chances of overwhelming the Troopers and allowing a breakthrough in their defenses.
Mission & Gameplay Tuning
TAC Fighter Strikes
The old adage of “MI does the dying, Fleet does the flying!” was proving to be too accurate for the brave Troopers on the ground. Effective immediately, all TAC Fighter pilots have been recalled for mandatory retraining to ensure accurate identification of friends from foes.
TAC Fighters are much less likely to kill Troopers and destroy the base if you are to believe those Fleet knuckleheads
TAC Fighters now specifically target BIG Bugs, and will prioritize the Bugs with the largest concentrations of other adjacent Bugs.
TAC Fighters strikes will precede their target a bit more to ensure a more accurate effect on target. They are more likely to strike closer to the center of their intended target
TAC Fighters strike’s Area of Effect has been adjusted for consistency. With larger Explosive radius, and fewer gaps between explosions where Bugs can survive
All TAC Fighters will report their kills (Previously only Fleet Relay TAC Fighters would.) Viewing the Tac Map will display the current kill counts for all active sorties during the match
Additionally, all TAC fighters will be outfitted with a far greater payload capacity, enabling them to drop a larger number of far more destructive bombs on the Bugs.
TAC Fighters have upgraded their ordnance for increased effect on target! The booms are bigger, with more lethality, and improved VFXs and SFXs

Trooper Tuning
Demolisher
Adjusted Explosive Expert passive ability Explosive Damage multiplier reduced from 1.5x → 1.3x
Reducing the stacking multipliers that affects the amount of damage a single explosive can deal. To compensate for the overall reduction of damage, some explosives are getting base damage improvements. Additional details are listed in the Armory Tuning below.
Ranger
Adjusted Survivalist passive ability Health Regen rate reduced from 10 Health/sec → 5 Health/sec
Improved Bloodlust perk Health Regen rate increased from 20 Health/sec → 50 Health/sec
Moving some of the base kit survivability into Ranger perks. Rangers are still the paragons of sustained combat, but now will have a slightly harder time rapidly recovering Health without also taking a dedicated perk, or using Stims.
Armory Tuning
Adjustment to Extended Magazines
The overreliance on larger capacity magazines had been determined to be a critical weakness in the Federation Procurement process. More bullets is often seen as the only viable option available to Troopers. In order to support more varied loadouts, adjustments are being made the quantities of ammunition Troopers will be allowed to carry into combat. Federation experts have recommended increased standard-issue ammunition allocations for most weapons, and an overall reduction in reserve ammo gained from Extended Magazines modifications.
Adjusted Extended Magazines modification Total Mags reduced from -1 → -2 (and in some cases, -3)
Adjusted Double-packed Drum modification Total Drums reduced from -1 → -2
Adjusted Extended Magazines modification for Morita I Total Mags reduced from -2 → -3
Adjusted Extended Magazines modification for Morita Carbine Total Mags reduced from -2 → -3
Adjusted Extended Magazines for SMG Total Mags reduced from -2 → -3
All Shotgun Long Magazine Tubes modifications are unchanged
Removed -1 Max Mags from Morita I Shotgun Underbarrel modification; Underbarrel no longer reduces total ammo
Default Total Mags for Epulse 88 increased from 5 → 6
Default Total Mags for SAW increased from 3 → 4
Default Total Mags for Chi-Hong increased from 5 → 6
Default Total Mags for Epulse Pistol increased from 4 → 5
These changes are intended to provide a horizontal improvement when taking an Extended Magazine instead of another Magazine modification. In general, Extended Magazines will have a net-neutral total ammo capacity increase; either staying the same or reducing slightly. Instead, a selection of weapons will gain the Reserve Magazines modification, which provides significantly more reserve ammo without affecting magazine size or reload speed.
TDW-99 Morita Tactical SMG
Chief among the complaints from Troopers in the field was the underperforming tactical submachine gun. The unique challenges posed by the disgusting Arachnids has highlighted the weapons shortcomings. But our brilliant Federation Engineers have determined that the standard-issue ammo available does not effectively counter the typical bugs the Trooper is likely to encounter. So effective immediately, all Tac SMGs have been rechambered to a larger caliber for increased effect on target. Additionally, Hollow-point Rounds will now be distributed as the default ammo, providing a more sensible balance of stopping power and moderate armor penetration. Now, the unique Shredder Rounds will be kept in reserve for Troopers with additional field mastery. Shredders are a novel frangible ammunition designed to shatter inside the bug for maximum carnage, but lacks a hardened case capable of penetrating carapace.
Damage increased from 50 → 65
Stagger increased from 40 → 90
Magazine Size reduced from 50 → 40
Ammo increased from 400 → 480
Hollow-point Rounds are now the Default Ammo
Moved Extended Magazines magazine modification to level 6
Added Shredder Rounds ammo modification at level 7
Added Reserve Magazines magazine modification at level 8
New Modification – Shredder Rounds
Specialized frangible ammunition that deals extensive internal damage against unarmored bugs. Deals significantly more damage, but is less effective at staggering bugs or defeating armor.
+10% Damage
-50% Stagger Damage
Weakpoint Multiplier becomes 3.0x
Armor Piercing Rating is becomes 1
New Modification – Reserve Magazines
Weightsaving measures allow the Troopers to carry significantly more reserve ammunition.
+4 Total Mags
TW-2-R Sp.L.I.T Shotgun (Slug)
The Federation has enacted new tolerance standards for any rifled shotguns in an attempt to improve accuracy of single shots after Troopers have taken to using their shotguns in a pseudo-sniper capacity. To further support the Trooper’s questionable decision-making, Federation Engineers have dusted off an experimental ammunition type, the Sabot Slug. These shells fire an armor-piercing discarding sabot, effective at far longer ranges than typical for a shotgun.
Improved ADS single shot accuracy, reduced hipfire and rapid-fire accuracy
Min Accuracy Deviation improved from 0.5 → 0.25
Max Accuracy Deviation adjusted from 2.0 → 6.0
Add Shot Accuracy Deviation adjusted from 2.0 → 3.0
Add Shot Accuracy Deviation (ADS) adjusted from 0 → 0.5
Adjusted Heavy Slugs modification Accuracy modifier from -15% → -30%
Added Sabot Slugs ammo modification at level 2
New Modification – Sabot Slugs
Deal less direct damage, but gain improved range and armor penetration.
-30% Damage
+200% Projectile Range
Armor Piercing Rating is becomes 4
M-56 Pilum Rocket Launcher
The Pilum, while not considered a typical standard issue, was lacking some critical firepower. The launcher will be reassigned as an Anti-Elite weapon, with adjustments to its performance to reflect its new intended role.
Direct hit Damage increased from 1000 Explosive Damage → 2700 Demolition Damage
Armor Penetration Rating increased from 1 → 5
Weakspot Critical Hit Multiplier reduced from 2x → 1x
These changes help to make the Pilum much more effective against larger beefier targets, allowing it to deal a serious punch against Bug Holes and Tigers.
TW-205-E Morita II
The herculean efforts of our Federation Scientists deserves to be commended. The field tests of the Experimental Plasma Launcher has proven to be too effective. The widespread adoption has placed severe strain on the Deepspace Vanguard's remote fabrication capabilities. Corners need to be cut to keep the production of these powerful rifles intact and at a greatly reduced cost.
Experimental Plasma Launcher modification Direct hit Damage reduced from 6750 Demolition Damage → 2700 Demolition Damage
Experimental Plasma Launcher modification Full charge multiplier increased from 200% → 300%
The Plasma Launcher simply trivialized too many threats. We wanted to keep key breakpoints intact, but require full charge to reach them. Troopers should still be able to 1-shot Bug Holes and Tigers with a Fully-charged shot, but will no longer be able to 1-shot Royal Guards (with specific Perks.)
TW-244-C Morita Carbine
Damage increased from 44 → 45.5
Hollow-point Rounds are now the Default Ammo
Adjustments to keep the Carbine competitive with the SMG. The Carbine still offers clean handling, superior magazine capacity and improved mid range performance.
C-32 Chi-Hong MGL
Added Reserve Magazines magazine modification at level 6
Morita XXX
Added Reserve Magazines magazine modification at level 3
FU-17 Flamethrower
Can now deal damage to Bug Holes
MX-90 Grenade
Explosive Damage increased from 1000 → 1600
Help to ensure frag grenades can more effectively close bug holes, and become more useful against Warriors by increasing the 1-shot kill radius.
Thermo Charges
Demolition Damage increased from 1000 → 2000
Keep the damage potential comparable to Proximity Mines and make them a more efficient option for closing Bug Holes.
Custodial Training
As originally stated, Troopers will now be compensated for time spent clearing bug corpses.
Now grants XP for clearing bug corpses
Quality-of-Life
Critical Strike Spawn Points
Squads will only be able to spawn in their own dropships and associated forward spawns for their lane. Each lane will be isolated, so choose your Squad carefully!
Troopers will not be able to select which spawn point to spawn at. Rally beacons will still allow anyone to spawn on them.
Tac Map Readability
Added transparency layers to tac maps for Boreas
The map layers provide better context for player location across multiple levels at once. This will assist Troopers in multi-level areas with challenging navigation.
MI Crates
The Federation has approved new equipment for storage inside standardized MI crates
Added Morita XXX
Added M-55 Rocket Launcher
Added E-pulse 88
Added E-pulse 44
Added Liberator Revolver
Added Liberator Revolver (Scoped)
Added Morita II
Added Morita II (Plasma)
Default Ammunition Types
The MI Field Manual lists the standard-issue ammunition type for each weapon. Troopers are required to familiarize themselves with the needlessly complicated acronyms and their specific calibers.
All Weapons now have a Default Ammo modification
The default modification does not affect base attributes. These mods are merely provided to streamline comparisons between an optional Ammo modification and the default choice.
