Devlog 19: The Craftsman
Era of Survival Patch Notes — May 23, 2021
Aggregated from Steam, cross-tracked with Battle.net coverage on GamePatchNote.
Hello Everyone,
This build focuses on improving the player's ability to craft things in the game. Using new placeable items like the Crafting Station and Multi-Tasking Station, players can now craft much faster and even two things at once! I also spent a considerable amount of time debugging various systems in the game, just to make things smoother. If you haven't yet, pick up your copy of Era of Survival and see what it's all about, or add Era of Survival to your wishlist and stay in the loop!
And now.. The expansion of crafting in Era of Survival.
Crafting Station - Tier 1

A crafting station lets players in close proximity to it, craft items faster. The station also opens up a 'Crafting Station Tier 1' Crafting section with items you can exclusively craft only when you're close to the crafting station. The tier 1 station will be used to craft advanced tools as well as the Multi-Tasking station
Multi-Tasking Station

This station gives the player the ability to craft two things at the same time. If you have three things in your craft queue, with number one currently crafting, if you were close to a Multi-Tasking station, number two in the queue would also start crafting. If you were close to a crafting station, both slots would craft faster too.
Stone Arrows
Similar to the wooden arrow, but does more damage on impact. They do require stone to make but can be worth it in a tight corner
UI Cosmetics
I adjusted the GUI in the main menu a bit for uniformity. Page widths and heights now match, the scroll box showing your worlds scrolls far enough to show all your worlds, even if there are 37 of them. They might sound like simplistic fixes, but they can look pretty stupid if just left as is
New foliage
Players will see new flowers and weeds between the grass. Together with modifications to rocks and how they are placed, the terrain almost looks brand new. I also worked on sounds in the forests, as well as the ecosystem in the forest. Just go into the forest, it's not so scary :)
Bug: Placement with fire
The fire's comfort and heat range that affects the player seems to have interfered when you wanted to place other things around it. I have separated the placement system from this range system (which is also used by the Multi-Tasking Station and Crafting Station) so they no longer interfere with one another, meaning you can place items close to the fire, but obviously not on top or in any way intersecting. This would also have been the cause for why you couldn't place walls when you have placed a fire.
New Sounds
I have replaced the Main Menu sound with a better nature sound and replaced the doomsday sound when you load your world with something more welcoming.
The list is not long, but this build lays the foundation to start expanding. It is now much easier to add new items and objects to the game, I can now focus more on the item I'm adding, than focusing on how it will be implemented.. Devlog 19 will have a 19.1, most likely a 19.2 and maybe a 19.3. In Devlog 20 I want to add the first native, who would be recruitable to do jobs for the player, like collect wood, water or tend to farm bases, go fishing or defend you.
I want to say thank you to those who keep sending their best wishes, nice thoughts, and positive comments. There is a moment of silence in appreciation whenever I come across any of the above. Thank you for your support and motivation, just look at how far it took Era! The community's involvement and feedback is key and is clear for all to see
There's still lots to do, and time is limited! So with that said, off I go.
Cheers,
Jean
